The project will be carried out in the city of Kozani, within the Municipality of Kozani (Kozani Prefecture). The building extension has been designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing central hospital complex, maintaining architectural consistency with the current exterior aesthetics in terms of materials, finishes, volumetric composition, openings, roof morphology, and the overall architectural approach of the pre-existing structures, which were completed at different periods.

The extension consists of a series of simple and distinct volumes that harmoniously connect with the existing facilities, creating a unified, easily recognizable, and familiar environment for visitors. At the same time, it fully aligns with the general aesthetic of the hospital buildings.

A well-designed façade and a sense of familiarity are key elements in fostering trust among citizens, patients, and visitors.

In alignment with the objectives of the Paris Agreement on climate change and the urgent need for global action, the project adopts a holistic approach to sustainable development, shaping the design solution from the outset. The focus is on integrating principles of environmental design and efficient mechanical systems while incorporating strategies that promote user health and well-being. The key goals include mitigating the negative effects of climate change, conserving natural resources, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and enhancing the health and well-being of users.

The core environmental design strategies include:

  • High-performance building envelope
  • Efficient air conditioning system
  • Automation systems
  • Energy-efficient lighting
  • Natural ventilation
  • Shading solutions
  • Indoor air quality management
  • Rational water usage
  • Health and well-being promotion
  • Sustainable transportation
  • Installation of electric vehicle chargers to support alternative mobility solutions
  • Environmentally friendly materials
  • Waste management
